Obituaries Ralph Joseph Sobreira

Mr. Sobreira, 57, of Allentown died March 17 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton. Born in Newark, he had resided in Keansburg before moving to Allentown 10 years ago. A Vietnam Army veteran, he was the owner and operator of Gifts and Gadgets, Allentown. Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Elaine Sobreira; a son, Frank McCarthy; three daughters, Paula Mammana, Ronnie Chmiel and Crissy Winter; three sisters, Marie Bolland, Dolores Yannelli and Barbara Banks; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John’s Church, Allentown, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, New Jersey Regional Office, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills 08015.

Pearl D. Wells Ryan

Mrs. Ryan, 96, of Burlington died March 19 at Burlington Woods Center, Burlington Township. Born in New Lisbon, she had worked for various restaurants as a short-order cook. A member of the Pennsauken Senior Citizens Club, she enjoyed sewing, cooking and knitting. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Ryan Jr.; a daughter, Shirley Thornburn; a son, John A. Ryan III; and three siblings, Frank, Ginny and Elizabeth. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Deirdre Ryan of Allentown; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington, from 7-9 p.m March 25. A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Cremation will be private.James A. Aldrich

Mr. Aldrich, 58, of Hazlet died on March 11 at Roosevelt Care Center, Edison. Born in Jersey City, he also lived in Old Bridge and Jersey City. He was a teacher at Middle Road School, Hazlet, for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Hazlet Republican Club and the director of the Hazlet Sewerage Authority. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Anna (Panella) Aldrich. He is survived by his wife, Barbara M. (Kopacz) Aldrich of Hazlet; two daughters, Jessica Godkin of Hazlet and Dawn Cannon of Parlin; a brother, Thomas Aldrich of Perrineville; and three grandchildren. Ar­rangements were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A funeral Mass was offered at Holy Family Church, Union Beach, followed by interment at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.

Elizabeth L. Burrows

Mrs. Burrows, 92, of Englishtown died March 18 at her son’s residence in Pompano Beach, Fla. Born in Perrineville, she had resided in Englishtown for 65 years. She was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher at the Englishtown Presbyterian Church for many years. She had also worked as a waitress at the Roger Smith Hotel, New Brunswick, and put herself through business school. After graduation, she was employed for several years as a secretary for Chamber and Barclay, Cranbury. She was predeceased in 1981 by her husband, Harold, and in 1992 by a grandson, Billy Pittman Jr. Surviving are a son, Harold R. Jr. of Englishtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Billy Pittman Sr. of Riverside; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Fernwood Cemetery, Jamesburg.
