Huntington
Hoop-A-Thons to aid
Huntington’s Society
The Huntington’s Disease Society of America, New Jersey Chapter, will sponsor its annual Hoop-A-Thon fund-raisers on April 17 and 24.
The April 17 event is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rutgers University Louis Brown Athletic Center (the "RAC") on Rutgers’ Livingston campus, Piscataway. The April 24 event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hoop Heaven Basketball Center, Whippany.
Participants will stand at the foul line and shoot as many baskets as they can in 10 minutes. For each basket that is sunk, sponsors (who are signed up by each shooter prior to the contest) will donate a pledged amount of money. Flat donations also will be accepted.
Many shooters will receive sporting goods gift certificates proportional to the money they raise. Every participant who raises $75 or more will receive a Hoop-A-Thon T-shirt.
Proceeds from the event will benefit programs for Huntington’s disease, an inherited, progressively degenerative brain disorder that results in a loss of physical and mental control. The Huntington’s Disease Society of America supports social and clinical services, treatment, counseling, genetic testing, educational programs and research to find a cure.
