Center offers several volunteer opportunities

The Volunteer Center of Monmouth County, Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, is seeking an office assistant to maintain a local resource center by covering the front desk, answering phones and taking messages.

A computer teacher is needed to teach residents how to sign up on resident computers for Yahoo e-mail and teach residents how to use e-mail.

An individual is needed to lead a biweekly or monthly discussion group on current events. A bookkeeper is needed to set up and/or help maintain organizational chart of accounts using generally accepted nonprofit accounting procedures.

Volunteers are needed for a local riding program for individuals with disabilities and youth horseback riding lessons. Volunteers will assist with weekly lessons by side-walking, tacking, grooming and leading horses for lessons.

Individuals are needed Monday through Thursday from 4-5 p.m. to be tutors and mentors.

A nonprofit marine science education and research center is seeking a volunteer to help with instruction, office duties, fund-raising and a gift shop.

A socialization group that meets on the first Sunday of each month for adults with Asperger’s syndrome needs an individual to sit and talk with clients or engage in YMCA activities in the gym or pool, or play board games.

An individual is needed to assist a preschool teacher with naps, brushing teeth, reading a story, setting up snacks, or assisting with filing and clerical duties.

Volunteers are needed to assist with a local 5K run.

An individual is needed to telephone blood donors to remind them of an upcoming blood drive.

A volunteer is needed to enter data into a computerized system, using the organization’s software.
