Mrs. O’Donnell, 79, of Hazlet died May 4 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in McAdoo, Pa., she resided in Elizabeth prior to moving to Hazlet 17 years ago. She was a retired clerk/bookkeeper at C.A. Burke, Roselle Park. Prior to that, she was a payroll manager at McAdoo (Pa.) Manufacturing. She was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She was a member of several area senior citizens clubs. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo O’Donnell, in 1978. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Susan O’Donnell of Hazlet; and one grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Benedict’s Church. Patricia E. Sharkey
Mrs. Sharkey, 63, of Middletown died May 4 at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, New Brunswick. Born in Perth Amboy, she resided in Middletown for the past 25 years. She was a planning coordinator at Telcordia, Red Bank, for 22 years, retiring in 2001. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, George M. Sharkey; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael G. and Shelley Sharkey of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Jose Parrilla of Bristow, Va.; a brother, Joseph Mercurio of Port Reading; and one grandson. Mary S. Fox Bachmann
Mrs. Bachmann, 76, of Hazlet died May 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there prior to moving to Hazlet in 1958. She was a bus driver for Hazlet Township School District for 20 years, retiring at age 65. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was a member of the Hazlet Seniors. She was predeceased by her husband, William Bachmann, and a son, John Bachmann. She is survived by two sons, William Bachmann and Tim Bachmann, both Hazlet; a brother, Robert Fox of Nashville, Tenn.; and two grandsons. Miriam Mae Huey O’Donnell
Mrs. O’Donnell, 94, of Middletown died May 13 at Brighton Gardens, Middletown. Born in Elizabeth, she resided there prior to moving to Middletown, in 1978. She was an executive secretary at Western Electric, Newark, for 47 years, retiring in 1975. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick O’Donnell. She is survived by two sons, James F. O’Donnell of Morris Plains, and Vincent O’Donnell of Roselle Park; and one niece and nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial was at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Palmira Flego
Mrs. Flego, 98, of Little Silver died May 7 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Pola, Austria, she survived the 1947 exodus from Yugoslavia during the Ethnic Cleansing of Italians prior to immigrating to the United States. She resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., prior to moving to New Jersey in 1962 and Little Silver in 1979. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was a member of Creative Hands, Shadow Lake Village, Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Marcello Flego, in 1975. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mario and Amelia Flego of Little Silver, and Fulvio Flego of Farmingdale; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marisa Giusti of Middletown, and Gianna and Santo Puleo of Wading River, N.Y.; a sister, Livia Laurini of Italy; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Karen L. Rohlf Fenton
Mrs.. Fenton, 54, of Middletown died May 14 at Doylestown (Pa.) Hospital. Born and raised in Lancaster, Pa., she resided in Middletown the past 31 years. She was a retired technical writer at Lucent Technologies, Holmdel. She was a member of All Saints Memorial Episcopal Church, Navesink section of Middletown. She was an a three-term ex-president of the Middletown Board of Education. She enjoyed art, and was a member of the Shore Fiber Arts Guild, Red Bank; and Association for Living Historical Farms and Agricultural Museums. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Doris White Rohlf; her husband, Francis M. Fenton in 2001; and a brother, Paul Rohlf. She is survived by a son, Colin P. Fenton of New York City; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth C. and Christopher L. Grimm of Doylestown, Pa.; a brother, Patrick Rohlf of Lancaster, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Catherine Rohlf; and three grandsons. A funeral service was held at All Saints Episcopal Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Crocchiola in 2002. Mrs. Emer, 78, of Middletown died May 19 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation of Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there prior to moving to Middletown nine years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was a former member, CCD teacher and Eucharistic minister at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Brooklyn. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert R. Tadeusz Madej
Mr. Madej, 90, of Aberdeen died May 20 at home. Born in Poland, he was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He was employed at Atlantic Tile, Keyport. Prior to that, he was employed at Mosaic Tile, Matawan; Lorvorisa, Marlboro; and Helm Tobacco Co., Helmetta, for 19 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Mr. Madej is survived by his wife, Zofia G. Madej; three daughters, Halina Klimchuk of Freehold, Sophia Marshall of Hazlet, and Theresa Knoeppel of Aberdeen; two sons, Stanley Madej of Waymart, Pa., and Edward Madej of Jackson; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Church, followed by interment at the parish cemetery, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Miltner Held
Mrs. Held, 90, of Red Bank died May 11 at Navesink House, Red Bank. Born in Dayton, Ohio, she resided in Ohio and relocated to Middletown in 1944, prior to moving to Red Bank. She was a retired assistant librarian at Red Bank Catholic High School, and head librarian at St. Thomas Aquinas Library, Red Bank. Prior to that, she was employed at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company. She was a founder of the Court of St. James No. 999 of the Junior Catholic Daughters of America, and a public speaker for the Council of Catholic Women participating in the United Nations education programs. She was a 3rd Order Franciscan, and Mercy Associate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Watchung. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Monmouth Boat Club, Red Bank. Active in the theater, she managed a theater group, as well as acted in, writing and directing several plays. She was predeceased by her husband Clayton Held; and two sons, Mathew and Robert. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Jim Fitzgerald of Fair Haven, and Rita Held Cartalano and Lou Cartalano of Los Altos, Calif.; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Greg and Jeri Held of Red Bank, Alan and Kaete Held of Wilmington, N.C., and Jeanne Held of Interlaken; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection was offered at Church of St. Anselm, Wayside section of Tinton Falls. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E.
