Ballgame benefit will honor fallen firefighter

On April 29, Washington Township Fire Department Capt. Dennis Williams was killed when he was struck by a dump truck while repairing a flat tire on Route 29 in Hopewell Township. Now, the fire department plans to honor his memory — and his many years of service to the community — by sponsoring a benefit at the June 12 Trenton Thunder baseball game.
Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit Capt. Williams’ two sons, Morgan, 8, and Dylan, 7.
Capt. Williams, a graduate of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, joined the Washington Township Fire Department in 1993. His dedication to firefighting prompted him to make it his full-time career. He became a captain in 2002 and was selected Fireman of the Year.
The June 12 benefit will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet at the Trenton Thunder stadium. The game and the buffet start at 1:05 p.m. and the buffet will run until 2:30 p.m. All seats are along the third base side near the left field picnic area.
Tickets to the benefit game cost $25 and can be purchased by credit card by calling Brian Cassidy at (609) 394-3300, extension 127. Mention the Capt. Williams benefit. Tickets also can be ordered at the Washington Fire Department on Route 130 in Robbinsville. Buyers will need to pay cash and pick up the tickets at the fire station.
For more information on the benefit game, call the firehouse at (609) 259-7814 or look for updates at www.wtfd.org.
Other contributions can be made to the Dennis L. Williams Memorial Fund in care of Stark & Stark, P.O. Box 5315, Princeton, NJ 08540.
