Girl Scout Council
honors adult volunteers
The Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts Inc., Farmingdale, recently bestowed honors upon local volunteers during its adult recognition awards ceremony. The most significant honor, the Thanks II Badge, was bestowed upon Edie Poole — a staff member at Monmouth Council — for work as a volunteer with the Holmdel service unit. Poole also serves as a member of the service team for Girl Scouts in Howell, is chair of the Family Partnership branch of the annual giving "HUGS" campaign, and is leader of Girl Scout Troop 433.
Several local women were also honored for years of service to Girl Scouting. Kathy Graves, Middletown, an adult Girl Scout volunteer for 25 years and a Girl Scout for 35 years, was bestowed with the Years of Service pin as well as the 35-Year Girl Scout pin. In addition, Jennifer Graves, Middletown, received a 25-Year Girl Scout pin. Sybil Angioletti, Ocean, received a 30-Year pin; and Debbie Nickels, Fair Haven, a 40-Year pin. Hazlet resident Helen Vincent received a 50-Year pin.
Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts also recognized several individuals as "hidden heroines/heroes" for significant contributions to local Girl Scouts. The area residents honored as "hidden heroines/heroes" are Cheryl Bontales, Holmdel; Nancy Bucco, Aberdeen; Kathy Graves, Middletown; Darcy Lawes, Little Silver; Mary Anne Linder, Eatontown; Mary Rice, Hazlet; and Cynthia Menard and Sheila Weisfeld, Holmdel.
Dr. Judith Kramer, Shrewsbury, was the local volunteer who received an Honor pin for contributions to Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts as a whole, beyond the honoree’s particular geographic area. Additionally, Patricia Rise and Sheila Weisfeld of Holmdel received recognition for recertification of Girl Scout instructor of trainers. The Council also recognized Joyce D’Accardi, Middletown, with a Meritorious Service Award for exemplary service to Monmouth Council.
The council also thanked a core group of adult volunteers for outstanding service to Girl Scouts. Honored with an Appreciation Pin were Janice Brand, Eatontown; Angela Burks, Long Branch; Laura Porter and Christine Zettell, Matawan; Ann Shugard and Dianne Thompson, Middletown; and Nancy Brandine, Flo Gormley, Renee Shrum and Donna Wendland, all Hazlet.
Local individuals and companies receiving the 2004 Community Award were American Legion Post No. 338, Leonardo section of Middletown; Courtyard at Marriott, Red Bank; Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, Aberdeen; Eatontown Board of Education; IAMA Inc., Long Branch; Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Eatontown; Ocean Township Department of Human Services, Oakhurst; Port-Au-Peck Chemical Hose Company, Oceanport; and William Robinson, D.M.D., Family Dentistry, Middletown.
