LETTER: Engine-braking ban good for township

To the editor:

Kudos to the Monroe Township Council for copying Cranbury’s ordinance banning the noisy practice of engine-braking by trucks and other vehicles.
Now please notify the N.J. Turnpike Authority and tell it to get with the program. Hundreds of Monroe residents near Interchange 8A suffer from the sounds of decelerating tractor-trailers on the exit ramps 24 hours a day.
Not even the promised sound barriers will alleviate the noise caused by thoughtless truck drivers, so "no engine-braking" signs should be posted on the Turnpike ramps, too.
