Melanie Pomerico, Tinton Falls, and Colleen Lineberry, Ocean, recently took first place and honorable mention, respectively, at the 18th annual juried art show sponsored by the Brookdale Community College alumni association, Lincroft section of Middletown. Pomerico won for her photo "Dad Has Cancer," and Lineberry for her acrylic painting "Jersey Peaches." Artwork will be displayed in the gallery at Brookdale’s center for visual arts through June 14. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, named the following local students to the spring semester dean’s list:
Lane Cyboron of Fair Haven, a senior majoring in industrial systems engineering at the College of Engineering;
Jonathan Ritacco of Ocean, a senior majoring in psychology at the College of Science;
Adam Loucks of Little Silver, a junior majoring in finance at the R.B. Pamplin College of Business;
Andrea Kaplan of Long Branch, a senior majoring in architecture at the College of Architecture and Urban Studies; and
Charles Harris of Oceanport, a senior majoring in aerospace engineering at the College of Engineering.
Ryan J. Longo, Monmouth Beach, received a bachelor of science degree in recreation management at the spring commencement exercises at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
Alyssa Gardina, West Long Branch, recently received the Park Scholar Award from Ithaca (N.Y.) College, one of only two New Jersey students to do so. The award is given to 20 students applying to the college’s Park School of Communications and covers the entire cost of attendance, a $2,500 grant toward the purchase of a computer, books, and a yearly stipend. Gardina will major in integrated marketing communications. The senior at Communications High School, Wall, received the honor and recognition for outstanding achievements in high school.
