Master board member status
earned by Marlboro resident
MARLBORO — The New Jersey School Boards Association has announced that Murray Hoffman, a Marlboro K-8 Board of Education member who has just entered his 11th year of service, recently earned master board member status.
Hoffman was presented with a plaque commemorating his achievement, an NJSBA tote bag and a gold NJSBA pin at the May 14 board of directors meeting. He also was recognized at the May 15 NJSBA Delegate Assembly and at the spring Monmouth County School Boards Association meeting. In the fall, Hoffman will be a guest at the NJSBA officers’ reception during the October annual workshop.
In order to achieve master board member status, Hoffman earned the maximum 40 credits offered by NJSBA by attending workshops, orientations, training sessions and other educational and informational offerings sponsored by NJSBA.
A retired educator with 32 years of experience with the New York City Board of Education, including that of assistant superintendent, Hoffman holds a B.A. degree in social sciences from Wagner College and an M.A. degree in education with certification in education administration and supervision from Brooklyn College. A 15-year township resident, he and his wife, Kitty, have five grown children.
A certificated board member, Hoffman is presently serving his fourth term. He has served on the negotiations, Safe Schools Task Force, ACE, budget, and space allocation and enrollment committees, and was a delegate to the Monmouth County School Boards Association and a liaison to the board business administrator’s office.
He presently serves on the construction and Marlboro Township Education Association negotiations committees, and is a liaison to the municipal government.
Elected members of school boards in New Jersey serve their communities as volunteers.
