Obituaries Mary A. Hand

Mrs. Hand, 76, of Freehold Township, died May 25 at Bartley Health Care Nursing & Rehabilitation, Jackson. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived there before moving to Freehold Township 10 years ago. A homemaker, she was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, where she was also a eucharistic minister. She was a former vice president of the CentraState Medical Center Auxiliary, Silvermead Chapter, Freehold Township. Mrs. Hand was predeceased in 1959 by a son, Eugene. Surviving are her husband, Patrick J. Hand; a son, John M. Hand of Stony Point, N.Y.; three daughters, Maureen P. Kenny of Arnold, Md., Eileen M. McLeod of Freehold Township and Kathleen M. Sweeney of Roselle Park; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale. C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ferrara Bittar

Mrs. Bittar, 81, of Manalapan, died May 27 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided in Jackson before moving to Manalapan seven and a half years ago. She was a member of the Manalapan Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Bittar was predeceased in March 2002 by her husband, Thomas J. Bittar. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Garcia of Manalapan, and Patricia and Michael Sullivan of Carteret; two sisters, Pauline Falanga of Naples, Fla., and Elizabeth Mazzone of Queens, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Funeral services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville, followed by burial at Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

Marguerite "Jackie" Gretchel Reid

Mrs. Reid, 94, of Freehold Township, died May 27 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Long Branch, she had lived in Neptune before moving to Silvermead, Freehold Township, in 1969. A homemaker, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale; a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star’s Molly Pitcher Chapter; a prior member of the Wall Campers Club; and a former volunteer for the CentraState Medical Center Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence D. "Chubby" Reid, in 1974 and a grandson, Timothy Lisle, as well as a daughter-in-law, Mary Ruth Reid. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward J. and Faye Reid of Grandy, N.C., and George D. Reid of Manasquan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth M. Lisle of Lakehurst, and Barbara R. and Robert Hurley of Farmingdale; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Richards officiating. Interment followed at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch. C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements.
