Mrs. Mahoney, 87, of Howell died May 17 at Leisure Chateau Care Center, Lakewood. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Howard Beach, N.Y., and East Brunswick before moving to Howell in 1997. Prior to retiring in 1970, for 15 years she was a sales clerk for Gertz Department Store, Jamaica, N.Y. She was a former member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, East Brunswick. She was predeceased in 1975 by her husband, Frank, and in 1997 by a daughter, Geraldine Stanley Milek. Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Pisano of Howell, Kathleen Mahoney Carney of Brigantine and Mary Jean Murin of Lake Hopatcong; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends gathered at St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold Township, for a Blessing, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, South Brunswick. C.H.T. Edward J. Stein
Mr. Stein, 73, of Englishtown, died May 20 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Born in Cheesequake, he had resided in Matawan before moving to Englishtown 12 years ago. Prior to retiring, he had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Hess Construction Co., Parlin. A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He was also a member of Operating Engineers Local 825 for more than 45 years, as well as a member of the Mallard Gun Club, Englishtown. Mr. Stein was predeceased in 1999 by a daughter, Wendy Maynard. Surviving are his wife, Alta Rae Gaub Stein; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Chuck Carpenter of Jackson and Lyn Stein of North Scituate, R.I.; a brother; five sisters; and a granddaughter. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Clement’s Church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Jean Licata Asselta
Mrs. Asselta, 93, of El Cajon, Calif., formerly of Lakewood, died May 16 in California. Her husband, John Asselta, died in 1983. Surviving are a son, Salvatore Asselta of California; two daughters, Elena Salvesen of Old Bridge and Joan Burns of Canada; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Holy Trinity Church, Helmetta. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y.
Antoinette M. Brienza
Mrs. Brienza, 75, of Original Leisure Village, Lakewood, died May 23 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Florida before moving to Lakewood nine years ago. She was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Brick, and a member of the village’s various clubs, including the Italian American, crochet, and bocce clubs. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Anthony Brienza; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and AnnMarie Brienza of Middletown, Stephen and Rosanne Brienza of North Massapequa, N.Y., and Gary and Lisa Brienza of Bethlehem, Pa.; a sister, Concetta Miele of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. Carmen Kossoff
Mrs. Kossoff, 76, of Brick died May 23 at Shore Meadows Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Toms River. Born in Puerto Rico, she had lived in Riverdale, N.Y., before moving three years ago to Brick, where she was a member of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Morris Kossoff, in 1991, and by a sister and two brothers, Maria, Jose and Louis Morales. Surviving are a son, Harry Betancourt of Oakland, Ga.; three daughters, Maria Graziano of Howell, Leslie Kossoff of San Francisco and Karyn Tilander of Auburn, Calif.; a sister, Mary Morales of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four granddaughters; and three nephews. Frederick Yockman
Mr. Yockman, 61, of East Brunswick, formerly of Old Bridge, died May 27 at home. Prior to his retirement in 2000, he was a maintenance supervisor with the East Brunswick Sewerage Authority, where he worked for 35 years. A son, Frederick, died in 1967. Surviving are his wife, Sally Germain Yockman; three sons, Brian of Jackson, Scott of Monroe and Eric of East Brunswick; two brothers, Joseph of Sacramento, Calif., and Robert of Old Bridge; two sisters, Fredericka Reilly of Wall and Ruth Smith of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
