PLUMSTED — The American Cancer Society’s third annual Relay for Life will return to New Egypt High School, June 12-13. Relay For Life unites communities in a celebration of cancer survivorship and a tribute to loved ones lost.
More than 500 people participated in the 2003 Relay for Life in New Egypt and worked together to raise more than $91,000 for the society’s research, education, advocacy and patient service programs, according to a press release.
This year’s event will run from 2 p.m. June 12 to 8 a.m. June 13. Cancer survivors are invited to attend a special buffet luncheon in their honor at noon June 12. The luncheon is free for cancer survivors but individuals are required to register.
Relay for Life is a volunteer-driven community event that allows participants from all walks of life — including cancer survivors, families, friends, corporations, civic organizations, schools, faith-based institutions and concerned community members — to join together in the fight against cancer. This celebration of survivorship centers around an overnight team relay that finds at least one member of each team walking or running around the track through the night, usually for a period of 18 to 24 hours.
The society will host Relay for Life in 43 New Jersey communities including: Mercer County Community College, West Windsor, June 4-5; the Kennedy Center, Willingboro, June 11-12; and Freehold Raceway, Freehold, June 12-13. For more information call (800) ACS-2345.
