Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, announced the names of the winners of its Gold Star Award for excellence with honors. The awards are presented to students who have made significant contributions to campus life. Carl Calendar, Tinton Falls, was honored for being a multiple winner, or "Best of the Best." First-time honorees were Keith Heimann and Julia Knorr, both of Red Bank.
U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-6) recently announced the winners of the 2004 sixth congressional district high school arts competition, Military Service Academy nominees, and winners of the Congressional Award. Awarded first place in the art competition, "An Artistic Discovery," was Michael Antrim of Red Bank Regional High School, Little Silver.
His work will be displayed for the next year in the corridor of the U.S. Capitol. Pallone also nominated Vanessa Nieves, Long Branch, for acceptance in the Air Force Academy and Matthew White, Long Branch, for acceptance in the Naval Academy. Nominated for acceptance in West Point Military Academy were Christopher Donohue, Ocean, and Bo Olsen, Monmouth Beach.
Winners of the Gold Congressional Award were Lindsey Howard, Monmouth Beach; Jamin Patel and Brian Washakowski, Ocean; and Georgette Tzatalos, Oakhurst section of Ocean Township.
Winners of the Bronze Congressional Award were Adam Ardakanian of Ocean, and Jonathan Schwartz and Rachel Sprung of the Wayside section of Ocean Township.
