A directory produced by the Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) may help residents get rid of unwanted items.
The "Reuse It Again!" directory lists places where residents can donate unwanted clothing, toys, eyeglasses, electronics equipment, videos, books, and other items.
The third edition of the manual lists dozens of agencies, organizations, churches and schools throughout the county that will accept all types of items from baby clothes and accessories to bicycles, dishes, arts and crafts and office supplies.
"This is an excellent way for neighbors to help neighbors," said Freeholder Camille Fernicola, chair of the county’s Engineering and Planning Committee. "So many things that you may not need or want anymore can be put to beneficial use by any number of groups."
"Donating items instead of throwing them away keeps them out of the landfill, which in turn helps our environment and keeps landfill tipping fees down for municipalities," said Edward J. Windas, recycling manager for the MCIA.
The directory includes contact information and drop-off sites. It also lists special recycling programs for clothes hangers, tires, paint, medical waste and household hazardous waste, among others.
