OCEAN TOWNSHIP — A Toms River resident is facing criminal charges for running over his girlfriend with his truck last week.
William Edmund Nagle, 42, of Basset Drive in Toms River is being charged with one count of attempted homicide and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, the pickup truck he was driving.
According to the police report, on June 27, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Nagle and his live-in girlfriend, Kelly Thomson, 27, were having dinner at the Applebee’s restaurant at the Seaview Mall.
The couple had left the restaurant and were having an argument when Thomson got out of the car to call a relative to come and get her, police said.
After she exited the vehicle, Nagle allegedly struck her with his 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck. According to eyewitness accounts given to the police, he then picked her up, put her in the vehicle and fled the scene. He took her to the emergency room at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, and left before police arrived, according to police reports.
Thomson sustained broken bones in her left foot, she suffered a large abrasion on her back and she lost consciousness for a short time, according to police reports.
Nagle was contacted by the Ocean Township police department and turned himself in, police said. His truck was seized as part of the investigation.
Nagle is being held in the Monmouth County Jail on $125,000 bail with no 10 percent bond option.
