Act right now to offer service on school board

If you are a Hopewell Borough resident and have given thought to serving on the school board, you have the chance to act now.
On Monday, Steven Wood, who had been Hopewell’s representative on the board for a little over three years, resigned to give more time to job and family.
The Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education soon will be advertising for candidates to fill the vacancy until the April 2005 school board election.
Those who know they are interested need not wait to see this advertisement, but can apply now to be considered for the post.
The school board’s Personnel Committee may screen applications and send those of qualified candidates to the full board for future interviews at a special meeting. The board’s target date for appointment of the new Hopewell member is Sept. 20 — a little less than two months away.
If interested, submit a letter of application, including your qualifications, resume and reasons for wanting to become a board member to: John Nemeth, board secretary, Hopewell Valley Regional School District, 425 S. Main St., Pennington, 08534.
To qualify for board membership, a person needs to be: a registered voter in Hopewell Borough; a citizen of the United States of America; at least 18 years of age; able to read and write; a resident of Hopewell Borough for at least one year; and not directly/indirectly interested in any contract with or claim against the board.
Those interested should be aware that board membership is a time-consuming job. Those seeking the seat should have a sincere desire to benefit the community. The job is not for anyone who seeks personal glory or wants to carry out personal objectives. As state officials, school board members have a responsibility to all children in the state, not just to those who live in Hopewell Borough or in the Hopewell Valley Regional School District.
We urge those who feel they are qualified to send in their applications now. Your community needs you!
