ABERDEEN — The township police are currently working with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI to hunt down a male who robbed a bank last week.

The robbery took place at the Commerce Bank on South Atlantic Avenue, near Route 34, on Aug. 7. Police received the call at 2:38 p.m., Aberdeen Deputy Chief John Powers said.

The male approached a bank teller and demanded money, claiming that he had a gun, Powers said.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he proceeded to leave on foot through the back of the building.

As he was running, the money he was holding was flying in the wind. He dropped money in numerous places, some of which was picked up by people passing by, he said. One of these people is an Aberdeen woman who has been cooperating with police.

Authorities are seeking a white male described as in his 40s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with blue eyes and light brown hair. He has a thin build, with a medium tan.

"We are hopeful that we will catch him," Powers said.
