Letters to the Editor

Community support

appreciated by family
To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our many friends and my family (especially parents and godparents) for their support over the past two months. Since my husbands’ wrongful termination from the Bordentown Township Police Department we have been blessed with numerous phone calls, e-mails and kind gestures of support. To these people, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
To the members of the BTPD, I hope that you all realize that you could be the next casualty in the reign of terror! It’s sad that you must work in an environment where there is such a lack of support and concern from the Township Committee. To those of you who have shown your support, thank you for stepping up.
To the Bordentown Township Committee, I hope that you sleep well knowing what a terrible mistake you have made. Please know that our family and friends all vote! As a Bordentown resident who was born and raised here, it saddens me to know that the future of our town lies in the hands of such incompetent people who don’t even care enough to know the facts prior to making any decision, let alone one that so greatly affected the lives of my family who live, work, attend school and vote here in Bordentown Township.

Players’ performance was uplifting and joyful

To the editor:
There are many ways to tell a story. The way in which the young Renaissance Players of Florence Township presented "Tales of Wonder" (Aug. 12-13) through story, song, music, and dance was, indeed, a wonderful performance! I found it to be aesthetic, joyful, exuberant, and spiritually uplifting. An enthusiastic audience, who gave the players a standing ovation, obviously thought so, too! I salute these young people and, also, their dedicated director, Debi Kenney.

Cats group thanks neighbors for help
To the editor:
We are so very grateful to all those who made the recent fundraiser for Bordentown City Cats a success. Thank you for your goodwill and generosity in supporting our work to help the many feral and stray cats in our community. For us, the evening was yet another reminder of the kind hearts of our neighbors and friends.

Fund-raiser will assist longtime firefighter

To the editor:
One of the best things about living in the Northern Burlington County area is the strong community spirit where people still look out for one another. The dedicated volunteers of our fire companies, rescue squads and civic associations are always there to serve their neighbors in time of need. Unfortunately, the family of one of our most devoted volunteers is now in dire need of our assistance.
For over 25 years, Herb DuBell has been one of the most active members of the Franklin Fire Company where he has served as an officer since 1986 and as chief from 1994 through 1997. Up until a couple of months ago, Herb was still one of the first to arrive at fire calls and one of the last to leave. Regrettably, he was recently diagnosed with intestinal cancer and was operated on almost immediately. We are all thankful that the prospects for his recovery are good, but Herb will be unable to work and provide for his family as he goes through six months of debilitating chemotherapy.
The sole responsibility for supporting the DuBell family now falls upon the shoulders of Herb’s wife, Jeanie. Jeanie herself is a dedicated community volunteer having served as an active member and officer of the Franklin Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Unfortunately, Jeanie also has serious health issues and has been out of work for many months.
Neighbors, the alarm has sounded for us to go to the aid of a family that has always responded when the community called. Please come to their assistance by joining us at a fund- raising picnic to be held at Liberty Lake Recreation Area on Saturday, Sept. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. In addition to great food, swimming and sports, there will be many activities for the children. A raffle and auction are also planned. Remember, your donation will go a long way in helping the DuBell family as well as providing you and your family with a great day of fun.
Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-11. Children age 5 and under are free. Tickets are available through the following people or businesses:
Dennis or Patty VanMater, 291-4705; Don or Janet Shinn, 298-6596; Barry or Beverly Rasmussen, 298-8974; Bob or Marion Reeves, 298-0463; Sean or Michelle Gable, 298-5882; Pinelands Nursery, 291-9486; Stevenson Supply, 267-1863; C. Reed’s Place, 298-0764; Donna Don’s Hair Salon, 298-6511; Boyd’s Pharmacy, 298-7474.
We’re looking for picnic Sponsors — sponsor’s names will prominently displayed. Platinum, $1000; Gold, $500; Silver, $250; Bronze, $100.
Checks should be made out to the "Helping Hand Fund" and mailed to the Franklin Fire Company, P.O. Box 229, Columbus, NJ 08022. All proceeds will go directly to the DuBell Family.
Please come out and show your support! We sincerely appreciate any assistance you are able to provide!
