Obituaries Edith Marie Hornak

Mrs. Hornak, 69, of Jackson died July 10 at Jackson Center, Jackson. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she had lived in Staten Island’s Eltingville section before moving to Cream Ridge more than 20 years ago, and had resided in Jackson for the past five years. Prior to retiring seven years ago, she was a legal secretary for Weil, Gotschal & Manges LLP, New York City. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Freehold Township, and Order of the Eastern Star, Beacon Light Chapter, Staten Island. Surviving are three sons, Thomas Hornak of Millstone, and Ronald and Arthur Hornak, both of Jackson; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by a private interment. Memorial donations may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 211 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold 07728.

Antoinette V. Mendola Fava

Mrs. Fava, 81, of Freehold Township died Aug. 14 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in New York City, she had resided in East Meadow, N.Y., and Hesperia, Calif., before moving to Freehold Township 12 years ago. She was a member of both the Freehold and Manalapan senior citizen centers. Mrs. Mendola-Fava was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 1967; two sons, Salvatore in 1994 and Vincent in 1993; and several siblings. Surviving are a son, Joseph Fava of Howell; two daughters, Nancy Giamanco of Freehold and Joanna Fava of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Anthony Mendola and Salvatore Mendola, both of Florida; a sister, Tessie Campagna of Westchester, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold. Cremation was private. Mr. Castellano, 78, died Aug. 11 following complications from Parkinson’s disease. Born in New York City, he resided there prior to moving to Hazlet 47 years. He was a senior design engineer and draftsman at Gibbs & Cox Inc., New York City, for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, where he was a member of its lector’s society, cantor society, and men’s choir. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean "Jennie" Castel­lano; five daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Roy Churchman of Manasquan; Carol and John DeLibero of Harrison, N.Y.; Marie and William Bonomo of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; Regina and Bret Jefferson of Jackson; and Jeanine and Kirk Anderson of Howell Town­ship; two brother and one sister-in-law, John Castellano of Edison, and Vincent and Nancy Castellano of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Benedict’s Church. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Nicholas F. Cogliano Jr.

Mr. Cogliano, 43, of Red Bank died Aug. 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Atlantic Highlands and Hazlet before moving to Red Bank 15 years ago. Mr. Cogliano was a production manager at Variety Industries, Freehold, the past 18 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Louise Perno Cogliano, in 1983. He is survived by his father, Nicholas Cogliano Sr. of Palm Coast, Fla.; his wife, Cheryl Butler of Red Bank; two brothers, Carmen Cogliano of Marlboro and Dennis Cogliano of Pine Beach; a son, Steven Reamer; and three nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
