EAST BRUNSWICK — Women Aware Inc., a nonprofit charity that provides services to abused women, is the winner of the 2004 Charity Challenge held at the recent Middlesex County Fair.

Women Aware collected the most donations from fairgoers with a total of $787, and was awarded an additional $500 from the event’s sponsor, Bonamici, Colletti, CPAs, of Spotswood.

Women Aware addresses the needs of women and children living in violent homes by making free and confidential support groups available.

It also plans safe-housing shelters and assists the women in obtaining temporary restraining orders when necessary. A major goal of Women Aware is to educate abused women that they are not alone.

In total, 16 charities participated in this year’s Charity Challenge. More than $2,500 in donations were received during the weeklong event.

Charities wishing to participate in next year’s challenge can put their names on the Middlesex County Fair Association’s contact list by calling (732) 257-8858.
