The Marlboro Gold, a 12U baseball team, finished second at the weeklong Cooperstown Baseball World tournament, held at the home of Baseball’s Hall of Fame. Teams from across the country attended the tournament. The Gold finished the weeklong tourney in Cooperstown with a 6-2 record. They beat Los Alimedos, Calif., 3-1, in the semifinals, avenging an early loss to them during the tournament. The Gold lost 5-2 to the Jackson Lightning in the final.
Three Marlboro Golf players were weeklong leaders. Joe Lefkowitz led all participants with six home runs. Chris Ayala led everyone in hits (15) and Joe Picarello was tops in doubles (eight).
The Marlboro Gold are: Picarello, Nick Martino, Craig Helfgott, Lefkowitz, Mike Sohnen, Sal Alfieri, Nick Forte, Ayala, Jesse Harris, Lucas Vidolin, Brandon Sarna and Jeff Mendelson.
