Artists/travelers capture
beauty of world around them

‘Discovering Beauty with Art and Travel," an exhibit of paintings, photographs and sketches by New Jersey artists, is at the Red Bank Public Library at 84 West Front St. through Sept. 16.
This is the second annual exhibit by artists who have participated in Artscapes workshops designed by artists Lorraine Niemela of Colts Neck, and Denise Weiner of Port Monmouth and guide Marielle Teyssier of Toulouse, France. From the Jersey Shore to Provence, France, the artists work as a community to record the beauty they see all around them.
"The show is a special combination of artists who are just beginning to explore the richness of art, those who are renewing their connection to art after years preoccupied with responsibilities, and experienced artists who have pursued art as a way of life," said Niemela, a noted watercolorist and teacher.
From a museum tour to Provence eight years ago, Artscapes has grown into a year-round palette of art retreats and travel at home and abroad that includes workshops and art retreats at the Jersey Shore and international trips in Europe.
"In a complicated world, art provides a welcome respite, a chance to reflect, renew and, for a moment, be at peace. This exhibit is a visual reminder to enjoy the beauty around us and to record it for others to share," observed Weiner.
Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday hours resume Sept. 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
