National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Central Jersey Chapter, will hold a dinner meeting Sept. 14 at Branches, West Long Branch. Mark Werneke, M.S. P.T., Dip. M.D.T., a neck and back pain specialist in the physical therapy department of CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, was a keynote speaker for the McKenzie Institute’s Conference of the Americas, held recently in Cleveland. He also conducted a workshop on how to critically evaluate research.

The New Zealand-based McKenzie Institute supports research and provides training in the McKenzie Method, an approach used by physical therapists worldwide for classifying, evaluating and treating patients with nonserious neck and back pain syndromes. The conference brought together physical therapists and physicians from throughout the United States, Canada, and Central and South America.

New Jersey Office of Information Technology, in conjunction with the Department of the Treasury, the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission, and the Small Business Development Center, will again host a series of seminars designed to educate IT (information technology) businesses on how to obtain state contracts.

The sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the following sites: The College of New Jersey, Ewing, Sept. 9; Rutgers University, Newark, Sept. 30; New Jersey City University, Jersey City, Oct. 8; and The Camden County Store, Gloucester Township, Oct. 14.

The series, titled "Partnering With You: A Doorway to State IT Contracts," seeks to simplify the procurement process, providing a step-by-step guide and offering insights into upcoming contractual opportunities. The sessions are designed for new and established business and will focus on opportunities for IT companies.

The Internal Revenue Service reminds small-business owners that free publications, Internet resources and business e-file are available. Small business owners and the self-employed are the focus of IRS outreach to help business taxpayers understand and meet their tax responsibilities. On the small business section of www.IRS.gov, taxpayers can learn how the tax code treats different business structures, apply for an employer identification number, make tax payments, and even watch a streaming video of small business workshop.

A nursing opportunities open house will be held Sept. 21, 1:30-5 p.m., at the Monmouth County Care Centers John L. Montgomery Division, 115 Dutch Lane Road, Freehold Township. The event is designed to give those in the nursing profession an opportunity to explore employment with the Monmouth County Department of Human Services and Health facilities.
