Bruce R. Rosenblum, M.D., of Colts Neck, a board-certified neurosurgeon and director of neurosurgery at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, has been selected as Physician of the Year by the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Rosenblum will be recognized at the Hospital Foundation’s Celestial Visions Charity Ball Oct. 9 at the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge.

According to a press release from Bayshore, Rosenblum is expanding the stereotactic aspect of his practice — that is, using image-guided techniques and robotics to perform surgery in a less invasive way. He also remains committed to treating patients with chronic pain issues, such as using implantable devices to alleviate pain.

Rosenblum received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City. His internship and neurosurgery residency were at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he also was chief resident in neurosurgery.

He also had a surgical neurology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Neurologic and Communicative Disorders and Stroke, Surgical Neurology Branch, in Bethesda, Md.

In addition to being director of neurosurgery at Bayshore, Rosenblum serves on the hospital’s emergency and ambulatory care, and operating room committees. He also is director of the neurosurgery divisions at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township; Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank; and Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Rosenblum is involved in a variety of organizations dealing with neurosurgery, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and its sections on pain, pediatrics, trauma and critical care, and tumors. He also is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Society of Neuro-oncology, and is a Fellow in the International College of Surgeons in Neurological Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association.

A nationally known speaker/presenter, Rosenblum has been published in various professional journals. His works include the book "State of the Art Reviews in Neurosurgery: Cerebral and Spinal Arteriovenous Malformations," which he edited and also contributed several chapters. His practice is in Shrewsbury.
