WEST LONG BRANCH — The repaving of Parker Road from the Eatontown borough line to Monmouth Road is the largest project in the proposed road program for 2005 put forth by borough engineer Edward G. Broberg.

Broberg and engineer Bob Stetz, of T&M Associates, presented their recommended program that will cost the borough $465,000 to the Borough Council at its last meeting.

The total cost of the program is estimated to be $686,000, including $243,000 for the Parker Road project, but Broberg said the borough will apply to the Department of Transportation for aid to fund the bulk of the cost for Parker Road. He said the state is expected to put up $221,000 for Parker Road, leaving the borough to pick up only the engineering cost of $22,000.

The other projects in the proposed road program and their cost are:

• Curb repair and placement and resurfacing of Harbor Court, $155,000.

• Repaving of a 1,000-foot section of Golf Street from Broadway to Primrose Lane, $82,500.

• Base repair, milling and overlay of the intersection of Forest Street and East Chestnut Place, $38,000.

• Repair of the pipe under Orchard Road by relining about 800 feet of it to provide a long-term permanent solution to the sink hole problem, $132,000. A section of the pipe was replaced and another small section was grouted last year.

In addition, Broberg recommended the borough include $35,000 in the road package to take care of some miscellaneous concrete curb and base repair as well as some minor drainage repair throughout the town.

“I have driven many of the roads and find that there are some minor repairs that should be addressed immediately,” he said. “If they are not, I am fearful that the expense to correct these problems will extend into a much more costly repair, which will involve removal and replacement and or reconstruction.

“This will result in substantially more cost in the future,” he noted.

Broberg said he didn’t anticipate construction beginning until next spring.

The major roads in this year’s road program are Whalepond Road, Palmer Avenue and Hollywood Avenue.
