Peter Smyth, CEO of Greater Media Inc., parent company of Greater Media Newspapers, has been elected vice chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) board of directors. He has actively served on the RAB board for the past five years. He will begin his newly elected duties Jan. 1.

Smyth joined Greater Media in 1986 as general manager of WMJX-FM in Boston and held various executive positions until his appointment in October 2000 as president and chief operating officer. In March 2002, he was named as Greater Media’s president and chief executive officer.

Radio Ink, a widely respected industry publication, has selected him as one of the 40 “Most Powerful People in Radio” in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Cost Cutters has announced it will take part in the annual March of Dimes’ “Pick a Pumpkin” campaign to be held during October. Cost Cutters will sell paper pumpkins for $1, $5 or $10 each, write names on the pumpkins and have the pumpkin displayed at the store where it is purchased. Proceeds will support March of Dimes programs that improve the health of mothers and babies. There is a Cost Cutters on Route 9, Manalapan. Junkitz, a scrap-booking wholesaler in Manalapan, will hold a special event Nov. 6 to celebrate the culmination of a road trip undertaken by a group of its designers. The designers are undertaking a trip from Utah to New York City, and hope that the road trip will act as a muse for a new scrapbook they will be creating, “Journey to Junkitz.” The women plan to appear on the “Today Show” Nov. 5 in the hope of being able to spark interest in their project when the hosts do their segment outside.
