Timothy M. Foran has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. The training provides the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet’s officer potential as a leader. The cadet command assesses each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course. Foran is the son of Beverly Ann and Stephen K. Foran of Jackson. He graduated from Monsignor Donovan High School, Toms River, in 2001.
Coast Guard Reserve Seaman Michael A. Seaman, son of Helen N. and Ronald J. Seaman of Jackson, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May. During the eight-week training program, Seaman completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness. Seaman and other recruits also received instruction on the Coast Guard’s core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty, and how to apply them in their military performance and personal conduct. Seaman will join 36,000 other men and women who comprise the Coast Guard’s force.
Army Sgt. Maj. Carol A. Sobel has retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of military service. Sobel was decorated with the Legion of Merit Medal at the retirement ceremony. The nation’s fifth highest medal is awarded to members of all the U.S. Armed Forces for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The performance must have been such as to merit recognition of key individuals for service rendered in a clearly exceptional manner.
For exceptionally meritorious service while serving in various positions of great responsibility and trust, she deployed into numerous combat and peacekeeping operations, leading public affairs troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq, International Forces in Bosnia and Support Hope in Rwanda.
Sobel’s husband, Richard, is the son of Arthur and Paula Sobel, of Lakewood.
