Nicholas F. Romano
Mr. Romano, 84, of Red Bank, died Oct. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Bank, he resided most of his life in Red Bank. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a social member for more than 25 years at the Liberty Hose No. 94 Fire Co., Red Bank, and past captain of the Red Bank Fire Police. He was also a member of the advisory committee at Red Bank Senior Center, and a former crossing guard at Red Bank Primary School. He was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Romano. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Benedetta “Bess” Romano; four daughters, Susan Andreasi, Bernadette Romano, Barbara Jiminaro and Marie Miller; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anthony’s Church. Interment followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Catherine Rose Akers
Mrs. Akers, 54, of Shrewsbury, died Oct. 5 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Metuchen, she resided there before moving to Shrewsbury. Mrs. Akers was a labor and delivery nurse at Monmouth Medical Center for several years. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing degree in 1999. She was predeceased by her father, Elwood Gray. Mrs. Akers is survived by her husband of 15 years, Nigel; her mother, Mary Gray; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kelley Stiles; two daughters and sons-in-law, Meredith and Brian Lienemann, and Rose and Byron Brewer; two brothers, Jim and Kevin Gray; two sisters, Mary Anne Knabe and Karen Hanna; a stepson; a stepdaughter; and one grandson. A funeral service was offered at Church of the Holy Communion, Fair Haven, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
William V. Ferro
Mr. Ferro, 96, of Red Bank, died Oct. 5 at home. He resided in Red Bank most of his life. He was a part-time barber at Lenny’s Village Barber Shop, Oceanport. Prior to that, he was a barber for more than 75 years, and master barber and owner and operator of the Officers’ Barber Shop, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown. He served with the National Guard and was discharged as a sergeant. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a past member of the Garabaldi Society. He was predeceased by a brother, Rafael Ferro; and two sisters, Ann Citarella and Mary Deponti. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Theresa; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rosemarie and Joseph McDonald off Middletown, Filomena and John Josko, of Ocean Township, and Teresa Mufara, of Brick; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony’s Church. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
Grace C. Larson
Mrs. Larson, of Eatontown, died Oct. 6 at home. She resided in Keansburg before moving to Eatontown 52 years ago. Mrs. Larson was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. She was predeceased by two brothers; and two sisters. Mrs. Larson is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert W. Larson Sr.; two sons, John R Larson of Freehold and Robert W. Larson Jr. of Tinton Falls; a sister, Christine Paris of Eatontown; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Cemetery Mausoleum, Oceanport. The Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements.
