Pie contest and trolley were Fall Fest highlights

OCEAN TOWNSHIP — On Oct. 2, the Township Community Celebration Committee hosted Fall Fest at Joe Palaia Park on the corner of Whalepond and Deal roads.

The event included a craft show, classic car show and an apple pie-baking contest.

It took eight judges, including Mayor William Larkin and Chamber of Commerce President Christine Hanlon, to choose a winner from the 17 pies that were entered in the contest that was sponsored by the Greater Township of Ocean Chamber of Commerce.

Winners in the professional division are: first place, Creative Caterers; second place, Wegmans Food Market, and third place, Cookies by Design.

In the Amateur Division, first place went to Linda Blochel, second place to Angela Taormina, and third place to Karen Reng.

The president’s choice was Christine Kaminski and the mayor’s choice was Lin Kaminski.

All proceeds went to the chamber’s holiday Adopt a Family program.

The Historical Museum sponsored a trolley ride, and the Oakhurst and Wanamassa fire departments offered tours of the fire engines to children.

Joe Palaia Park hosted the fifth annual Carol Steadman Memorial 5K Run before the festivities began. There were 224 participants in the race sponsored by Cub Scout Pack 70 of Ocean Township.

The winners were: men, Paul Looney 18:28; women, Sommer Kubaitis, 20:20; youth male, Domenick Baldanza, 24:28; and youth female, Mariah Guy, 25:06.
