SOLEBURY Solebury School’s cross-country team had one meet Oct. 5 at the Belmont Plateau.
Seven teams competed, and Solebury placed second with 50, while the Phelphs won with 49.
Solebury freshman Tom Hedges of Lambertville again led the team, placing second with 20:00, and junior Malcolm Ingram of Philadelphia placed fourth with 21:04.
Solebury’s girls soccer team had two games last week. Oct. 5, the girls played Life Center Academy and lost 5-2.
Despite the loss, it was a hard-fought game. Goalie Meredith Bostock of Doylestown had a chance to capitalize on a penalty kick in the second half and scored the first goal for the lady Spartans. Sophomore Pilang Thach of Camden scored the second goal.
Though Solebury dominated the game, according to Coach Lyle Hazel, the team couldn’t seem to get the ball into the net.
Oct. 7, the girls played Mercer Christian Academy and lost 2-1. Another hard-fought game, but sophomore Janae Weldon of Trenton was the lone lady Spartan to score.
Solebury’s field hockey team held its ground in the last two games. Oct. 4, the team played Calvary Christian School and lost 7-0. Although Calvary scored seven, goalie Maurya Stinson of Doylestown can be credited with playing a solid game, keeping many more shots out of the net.
Oct. 6, the team played Pennington Prep and lost 3-0. The girls played a good, solid game. Goalie Maurya Stinson was again amazing with many saves.
Elena Taylor and Kerry Toole of Doylestown, Elysia Price of Trenton and Lorraine Chang of Taipei, Taiwan all played very well.
