The chambers of commerce of East Brunswick, Edison, North Brunswick and Perth Amboy invite all businesses to a Four-Chambers After-Hours Business Card Exchange set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 21, hosted by United Teletech Credit Union, 2201 Route 1 south, North Brunswick.

Admission $10 in advance for members, $15 for members at the door, $20 for nonmembers.

Participants should bring a door prize and business cards.

The Chamber of Commerce serving Old Bridge, Sayreville and South Amboy will host its 12th annual Business Leaders Awards Dinner on Oct. 27 at the Grand Marquis, Old Bridge, to honor local business people who have worked to improve and expand business opportunities in the three communities.

One recipient from each community — Old Bridge, Sayreville, South Amboy — will be recognized at the dinner.

To be considered for nomination, individuals must own or work at a business in one of the three communities; be involved in activities contributing in an outstanding way to the growth of one of the three business communities; and be involved in activities exemplifying a strong commitment to the development of Old Bridge, Sayreville or South Amboy.

This year’s honorees are Neil Kerman of Summerhill Nursing Home, Old Bridge; Robert Downey, a general contractor in Sayreville; and Richard Lerner of Allcare Medical, South Amboy.

Peter Smyth, CEO of Greater Media Inc., parent company of Greater Media Newspapers, has been elected vice chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) board of directors. He has actively served on the RAB board for the past five years. He will begin his newly elected duties Jan. 1.

Smyth joined Greater Media in 1986 as general manager of WMJX-FM in Boston and held various executive positions until his appointment in October 2000, as president and chief operating officer. In March 2002, he was named as Greater Media’s president and chief executive officer.

Radio Ink, a widely respected industry publication, has selected him as one of the 40 “Most Powerful People in Radio” in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Ladies Workout Express, Sayreville Plaza, Route 9 south, will hold an Oct. 18-24 “Circuithon,” which will help raise funds to fight breast cancer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

For each 30 minutes an individual participates in a free workout, Ladies Workout Express will donate $1 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The business also will donate 10 percent of all jewelry sales from Danielle’s Designs, its in-house line of handmade Swarovski Crystal jewelry, to the same charity.

The East Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a breakfast seminar and networking program from 8-10 a.m. on Oct. 20, hosted by CareOne of East Brunswick, 599 Cranbury Road.

Guests speaker David Levine of Action International will offer a presentation titled “Build Your Business — Five Steps to Business Profits.”
