The six candidates seeking seats on the Township Council will square off in a town-forum style debate Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the main meeting room in the Municipal Building.
The debate format will allow the public to ask the candidates questions through a moderator from the League of Women Voters of the Princeton Area. The moderator will not be a resident of South Brunswick, said Anne Zeman of the League of Women Voters.
Democrats Carol Barrett, an incumbent; Joe Camarota, a member of the zoning board; and Charles Carley, the chairman of the South Brunswick Democratic Organization will face off against Republicans Ted Van Hessen, an incumbent; Roger Craig, a former South Brunswick mayor; and Lynda Woods Cleary, a first-time candidate.
The candidates will have one minute for opening remarks, two minutes of closing remarks and one and a half minutes to answer each question, said Ms. Zeman. Each question will be answered by one candidate from each party.
The moderator will have the audience members write down their questions prior to the debate and direct the questions to the candidates, Ms. Zeman said.
The moderator will choose which candidate answers the question, Ms. Zeman said and will ensure that the debate runs smoothly.
The debate will be broadcast on the local access channel, Channel 3.
