  • Pacina Massaro DeRose
  • Mrs. DeRose, 71, of East Brunswick, died Oct. 11 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Ross C. DeRose; a son, Ross A. DeRose of the Somerset section of Franklin; a sister, Elizabeth Ippolito of East Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 14 at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Mausoleum, South Brunswick.

    Leo Babeu

    Mr. Babeu, 80, of East Brunswick, died Oct. 11 at home. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Carey Babeu. Surviving are three daughters, Beth Babeu Kelly of East Brunswick, Linda Silverstein of Roosevelt and Theresa Black of Eatontown; two sons, Leo of Two Harbors, Minn., and Paul of East Brunswick; and nine grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Frost Woods Memorial Park, East Brunswick.     Anne N. Konopko Zajac

    Mrs. Zajac, 89, of South River, died Oct. 10 at home. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Zajac, and by a son, James Zajac. Surviving are a daughter, Joanne Ursitti of South River; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Zajac of South River; a cousin, Anne Homes of Freehold; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Cemetery, South River.

    Elwood Frank Dunwald

    Mr. Dunwald, 72, of Sayreville, died Oct. 8 at home. Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed by the Sayreville Board of Education as a custodian at Eisenhower School, where he worked for 13 years. Prior to that, he worked as a chemical operator for 24 years at National Lead Industries, Sayreville. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Unterwald Dunwald; a son, Ray Dunwald of Jackson; four daughters, Linda Scheman of East Windsor, Diane Johantgen of Long Branch, Arleene Tisdale of Chesapeake, Va., and Elaine Matthews of South River; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey, 1034 Salem Road, Union, NJ 07082.

    Elizabeth A. Ondrazky Smialowicz

    Mrs. Smialowicz, 87, of East Brunswick, formerly of Kenilworth, Rahway and High Bridge, died Oct. 9 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Walter, died in 1992. Surviving are two sons, Walter of Piscataway and Douglas of Hazlet; a daughter, Jean Wentz of East Brunswick; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.     Anna Fitzpatrick Vasata

    Mrs. Vasata, 89, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 8 in Park Place Center, Monmouth Junction of South Brunswick. Her husband, William Vasata, died in 1976. Surviving are a son, William Vasata of Old Bridge; a daughter, Carol Adinolfi of Spotswood; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

    Joseph J. Quattrocchi

    Mr. Quattrocchi, 63, of Sayreville, died Oct. 8 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. He was employed in the seafood department at Pathmark of Old Bridge for the past six months. He also was a school crossing guard in Sayreville. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Quattrocchi Sr. Surviving are his wife, Agatha Filosa Quattrocchi; three children, Debra Petrow of Hemmit, Calif., Donald Joseph Quattrocchi of Sayreville and Diane Skwira of South Amboy; his mother, Claire Quattrocchi of Long Island, N.Y.; four sisters, Marie Corbiseiro, Nancy Martinez, Elaine Filacaneo and Patricia Quattrocchi, all of Long Island; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bernadette’s Church, Parlin section of Old Bridge. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.

    Elizabeth Schmitt Tussi

    Mrs. Tussi, 67, of South River, died Oct. 4 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a home health aide for 10 years. She was predeceased by her mother, Elsie Fursa Schmitt. Surviving are four children, Charles Tussi Jr., Lisa Medina of Sayreville, Anthony Tussi of Ridgefield Park and William Tussi of Hawthorne; her father, Fred Schmitt Sr. of Pennsylvania; a brother, Fred Schmitt Jr., also of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren. Services were held at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville. Interment was in Fair Lawn Cemetery.

    Louis M. Rafano

    Mr. Rafano, 62, of South River, died Oct. 11 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he was employed as a chief registered environmental health specialist with the Middlesex County Health Department, where he worked for 27 years. He had worked for many years with his father in Cosmo Catering Service Inc., South River. His father, Cosmo Rafano, died in 1998. Surviving are his mother, Tessie Ciccarelli Rafano of South River; a brother, Robert C. Rafano of South River; two nephews, Christopher Rafano and Robert Rafano, both of South River; two nieces, Amy Rafano of South River and Jill Rafano of Alexandria, Va.; three great-nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Oct. 14 at Corpus Christi Church, South River. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
