Volunteers needed to
assist victims of abuse
Caring, supportive and committed persons are being sought to assist survivors of sexual abuse.
The Rape Care Program of 180 Turning Lives Around, Hazlet, is in need of volunteers to become rape care advocates and members of the Monmouth County SART (Sexual Assault Response Team). There is a particular need for bilingual and multilingual individuals.
The 80-hour training will begin with a full-day orientation Jan. 15. Subsequent sessions will be held on weekday evenings and alternate Saturdays. The training includes areas of sexual assault awareness; crisis intervention; hotline counseling; the medical, legal and emotional needs of a sexual assault survivor; and the criminal justice system in relation to sexual assault. Trainees may not miss more than two sessions, which will be made up with video viewing.
For more information, call (732) 264-4360, ext. 253, or e-mail [email protected] no later than Dec. 15. An application and information packet will be mailed to callers who leave their name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. Acceptance of registration does not ensure admittance to the program.
