“Vietnam Legacies: Poems from the War and Back Home” will be presented Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and Vietnam Era Educational Center, Holmdel. The poetry reading will feature authors and Vietnam veterans Jan Barry, W. D. Ehrhart and Charles H. Johnson, Red Bank. The Vietnam Era Educational Center is the first educational center and museum of its kind in the United States. Barry is the author of “Earth Songs: New & Selected Poems,” co-editor of “Winning Hearts & Minds: War Poems by Vietnam Veterans,” and staff writer at The Record of Bergen County. Ehrhart is author of “Beautiful Wreckage: New and Selected Poems,” editor of “Carrying the Darkness: Poetry of the Vietnam War,” and a teacher. Johnson is author of “Tunnel Vision” and of poems on Vietnam engraved on the Plainsboro Veterans Memorial and an editor at the Home News Tribune in East Brunswick. The entrance fee, which includes the poetry program, is $4.

Local rock band Philip’shead will host a costume party with live music Halloween night, Oct. 30, at 9 p.m. at the Brighton Bar, 121 Brighton Ave., Long Branch, 18 and over. Cover is $8 for those in costume, $10 for others. Free jazz band Mothguts will also perform. The evening will include a costume contest. The Office of Business and Community Development at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft will present an Irish Heritage Series concert by Colcannon on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 7- 9 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. “The Scarlet Pimpernel” will swashbuckle its way into the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank for the first two weekends in November. Produced by Phoenix Productions, the musical set during the French Revolution will be presented Nov. 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. at the theater, located at 99 Monmouth St. Tickets are $26 and $24. The annual Jewish Film Festival will take place Nov. 4-18 at Clearview Cinemas in Ocean Township, Clearview Cinemas in Red Bank and headquarters of the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan. A free screening of “Shaolin Soccer,” a comedy film in Cantonese with English subtitles, will be held Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, 1001 Route 35, Shrewsbury.

The Arts and Education Center, New Brunswick, will present “Master Artists Workshops in the Schools” at high schools in Monmouth County during October and November. The hands-on workshops led by master artists will be offered in theater arts, poetry, playwriting, fiction, vocal and instrumental music, modern dance, choreography and photography. They are designed to expose students to the level of instruction available in the weekly, tuition-free high school and middle school-level programs offered by The Arts and Education Center.
