The Yemin Orde Youth Choir from Mount Carmel in Israel will sing songs of sorrow, joy and hope from the stage of Red Bank Regional High School in Little Silver on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
The choir comprises students in grades 10-12 from Yemin Orde Youth Village, a home and school for 500 adolescents from 22 countries around the world. Young singers from Ethiopia, the former Soviet Union, South America and other Diaspora communities, sing alongside Israeli children. The choir’s repertoire includes classical music and popular Israeli works, as well as original music composed and written by the schoolchildren.
The 77-acre Yemin Orde campus is a regarded as a model for peace, nonviolence and modern Jewish observance among children and youth from around the world. Home to more than 500 disadvantaged, homeless or at-risk youths from 22 different countries, Yemin Orde was founded in 1953 and is both a home and school environment dedicated to integrating young people from diverse cultures and providing them with quality care and education.
Choir members will be joined by singers from the Ruth Hyman Jewish Community Center preschool in Deal and the Solomon Schechter Academy of Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Advance tickets are $10, $5 for seniors and children; at the door, $12 and $6. Proceeds will benefit the overseas programs of the Jewish Federation of Greater Monmouth County.
