Jersey Shore Partnership conference Nov. 5

  • The Jersey Shore Partnership will hold its fall conference, “Our Future: Oceans, Estuaries and Wetlands,” Nov. 5 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Monmouth University, West Long Branch. Co-chairs are Admiral Paul G. Gaffney II and Lillian Borrone, New Jersey members of the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy. Panels at the conference will focus on the use of coastal resources, conservation and management.
  • Gaffney is president of Monmouth University and chair of the Governor’s Commission to Protect and Enhance New Jersey’s Military Bases. Borrone was assistant executive director and port commerce director for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. During his Naval career, Gaffney was president of the National Defense University and Chief of Naval Research, with responsibilities for science and technology investment. Borrone is a transportation export that served with the U.S. Department of Transportation, and member of the marine board of the National Academy of Sciences.

    The Commission on Ocean Policy is a review of ocean sustainability issues undertaken in recent years. It submitted a report with recommendations for future actions to help preserve and protect oceans, and the recommendations are now being reviewed by Congress and United States governmental agencies.
