Eleanore DeRiggi Evans

Mrs. Evans, 83, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Oct. 4 at home. Her husband, Leroy J. Evans Sr., died in 1984. Surviving are two sons, Leroy Evans Jr. of Parlin and Robert Evans of South Brunswick; a sister, Adeline Monetti of Lakewood; and two grandsons, Robert C. Evans and James P. Evans. A Mass was offered at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens.

Louise Spitz O’Brien

Mrs. O’Brien, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 12 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Prior to her retirement in 1995, she was a teacher for 30 years at Cheesequake School, Old Bridge. She also taught a high school equivalency course for Old Bridge Township. Her husband, David F.X. O’Brien, died in 1979. Surviving are a son, Tim O’Brien of Old Bridge; two daughters, Patricia Olcott of the Hamilton Square section of Hamilton and Eileen Messina of Brick; a sister, Carol Hackett of Merrick, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

Orie Herbert Hammond Jr.

Mr. Hammond, 75, of Old Bridge, died Oct. 16 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was an owner and trainer of harness racing horses at Freehold Raceway and other tracks for many years. His wife, Frances Hammond, died in 1994. Surviving are a son, Orie Hammond of Howell; a daughter, Katherine Ross of Jackson; a brother, Oscar Hammond of Jackson; a sister, Dorothy Dickhut of Jackson; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Eckman Funeral Home, Spotswood. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, Franklin.

Ruth Joslyn

Mrs. Joslyn, 76, of Middletown, died Oct. 25 at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. Born in Irvington, she resided in Long Branch before moving to Middletown 43 years ago. Mrs. Joslyn was a sales clerk at Hosteder’s Five and Dime, Matawan, for three years. Prior to that, she was a billing clerk at Squires, Schilling and Skip, Newark, for seven years. She was predeceased by a son, Arthur Joslyn, in 1980. Mrs. Joslyn is survived by her husband of 52 years, Earl A. Joslyn, and a daughter, Linda Joslyn of Jackson. Burial took place at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.
