HOWELL — An investigation into the circumstances that preceded the death of a Howell teenager is continuing one year after the young woman died.

Amanda Faith Reo, 17, died on Oct. 29, 2003, about one week after she had been found in an unresponsive state at the Amanda Lane home of a friend with whom she had been staying.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office recently received a toxicology report about Amanda, but a representative of that office last week declined to say what the contents of the report are at this time.

“The toxicology report is complete,” said Pete Warshaw, assistant prosecutor and director of major crimes. “We have it, but I’m not releasing its contents because we still have an active investigation.”

Authorities did not disclose information about the person with whom Amanda was staying overnight when the teenager was found to be unresponsive. No charges have been lodged against any individual in connection with the case.

At the time the incident occurred, Monmouth County Prosecutor John Kaye said the first responders to the home attempted to revive Amanda but were unable to do so.

The emergency personnel transported Amanda to Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. She was subsequently transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, where she died.

Kaye noted there were no signs of drug use at the Amanda Lane residence, but said there were empty beer cans nearby.

At Howell High School graduation ceremonies in June, members of Amanda’s family accepted her diploma from school administrators on her behalf.
