Scout campaign nets $88K

HOWELL — Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts raised $88,000 through its HUGS (Help Us Grow Stronger!) annual giving campaign. The campaign ran from April 19 through Sept. 30. This total included a $3,500 contribution from Commerce Bank, as secured by Monmouth Council board member Stacy Romano and volunteer Carole Horowitz, both of Commerce Bank.

“Our goal this year was to raise $75,000 through contributions from members of the community, Girl Scout families, Monmouth Council alumni, board and staff,” said Susan H. McClure, chief executive officer. “This year’s campaign was the most successful yet and we are thrilled with the results. We are extremely proud of the fact that 84 cents of every dollar donated directly benefits local Girl Scouts in Monmouth and northern Ocean counties. As an organization we are committed to increasing the amount of revenue that we generate from adults. At Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts, we’re striving to serve every girl, everywhere in our community. Contributions to the HUGS campaign make that possible.”

Co-chairs for this year’s campaign were Dr. Judith Kramer, Colts Neck, and Stacey Romano, Jackson. The division leader for the community was Bonnie Chankalian, Brick. The community captains included Linda Babler, Red Bank, Barbara Birdsall, Wall, Carole Horowitz, Freehold, Lesbia Marrero, Lakewood, Harriet Primack, Sea Bright, Barbara Roma, Manahawkin, and Linda Wagner, Wall.

The division leader of the family part of the campaign was Evelyn Strain of Howell. Family captains included Terri Bordick, Ocean, Betty Trivisone, Matawan, Barbara Barbados, Howell, and Margaret Franklin, Colts Neck.

The division leaders for the alumni segment were Phoebe Edwards, Fair Haven, and Carole Malik, Middletown. Campaign captains for the alumni were Annabelle Guarino, Sea Bright, Gerda Mooney, Point Pleasant, and Jacquelin M. Woods, Point Pleasant. The division leader of the board portion of the campaign was Ann Scott, Brielle, while the staff division leader, Nancy Cummons, Neptune City, was in charge of soliciting donation from Monmouth Council staff.
