Donations being accepted to aid hurricane victims

  • Toms River Fire Co. No. 1 is assisting in an effort to bring relief to some of the victims of four hurricanes that have devastated Florida over the past six weeks. They are asking for contributions of the following items to be dropped off at the Toms River Co. No. 1 Fire House on Robbins Street: summer clothing, footwear, manual can openers, toilet items, nonperishable foods and school supplies. Donations may be dropped off at the fire house Oct. 16 and 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at the time of registration for the Halloween parade scheduled for Oct. 30.   • Ocean County Historical Society Halloween crafts

    The Ocean County Historical Society invites kids of all ages to paint pumpkins and make Halloween crafts at 10 a.m. and at noon Oct. 30 at its location at 26 Hadley Ave., Toms River.     Ocean Medical Center hosts art auction

    The Ocean Medical Center Association will host an art auction on Oct. 30, at Ocean Medical Center, 425 Jack Martin Blvd., Brick, in the Atrium. There will be a preview from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the actual auction starts at 7:30 p.m. The proceeds from this event will go toward the purchase of a state-of-the-art mobile ultrasound unit for the Emergency Department. The art auction will be conducted by Ross Galleries, who will be bringing a variety of oil paintings, watercolors, limited-edition lithographs, etchings and serigraphs, as well as decorative reproductions to choose from. There will also be a selection of sports memorabilia, estate jewelry and tabletop collectibles. Checks and credit cards will be accepted.     ‘Fishing Tackle’

    The Brick Pop Warner Dragons will host a “Fishing Tackle” flea market at the Brick Elks Lodge on Old Hooper Avenue Nov. 6 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3 with children under age 12 admitted for free.     The Ladies Auxiliary of Laurelton Fire Co. No. 1 is sponsoring a comedy show starring Paul Venier Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Advance purchase is recommended.
