LETTERS: For balance on council

To the editor:

As one of the candidates receiving the South Brunswick Post’s endorsement, I am honored. Being recognized in this way by a regular observer of the Township Council is rewarding and much appreciated.
Equally, it was heartening to read that the Post’s editors have concluded there must be a political balance brought to the council. The unfettered domination of municipal policies by the current Democrat regime is troubling at best and dangerous at worst. That the Post would reach the conclusion that balance must be restored is quite understandable. Electing Roger Craig and Lynda Woods Cleary to join me on the council will provide exactly the solution suggested by the Post in its editorial.
Roger Craig has served the people of South Brunswick with distinction. His service on the school board, the board of managers of the South Brunswick Family YMCA, and the MCEOC have all been marked with his commitment to collaborative bipartisanship — putting results for our residents above any party platform.
Lynda Woods Cleary holds an MBA in finance, is soft spoken and articulate and has a keen ability to evaluate the facts and make clear, reasoned decisions. Her community service record is outstanding — including breast cancer detection programs, UNCF volunteer, and Princeton Walk Homeowners’ Association leader — and marks her as a "doer" and "giver" to our community.
Over the years, I greatly value the support and encouragement I have received from so many Republicans, Democrats and Independents in South Brunswick. More than ever, your continued support is greatly appreciated this year. Our opponents have spent tens of thousands of dollars on their campaign — easily outpacing our campaign by what could be a margin of 10-to-1. Despite all our opponents’ glossy mailers and advertisements, I ask that the voters of this township take a stand and say that the excessive money in politics is not in the best interest of our community, and that you elect Roger Craig and Lynda Woods Cleary to join me on the Council.
Ted Van Hessen
