Jewish family service seeks volunteers, drivers

Jewish Family and Vocational Service of Middlesex County needs caring volunteers to work with older adults at its Cameo and Elderday programs. Both groups meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Temple Emanu-El, 100 James St., Edison. Programs include arts and crafts, music and dance (piano available), lectures and demonstrations, poetry, book reviews and cultural activities.

The organization also needs drivers for Nov. 5 for its Cameo and Elderday programs to enable six program members to continue participating. The members live in Iselin, Metuchen, Edison and South Plainfield.

In addition, volunteers are needed for delivering meals to homebound clients. There is an immediate opening on Wednesdays for the Perth Amboy/Woodbridge delivery route. The Kosher Meals on Wheels Program is a five-day-a-week service that provides two daily meals to seniors and disabled individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to shop or cook for themselves.

Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of two delivery dates per month, with each route running approximately 90 minutes. Those who are unable to make a permanent commitment may sign on as substitutes and will be called on an as-needed basis. Nondrivers may volunteer as well to be “jumpers,” or navigators who work alongside the driver. To volunteer, contact E.J. Berman, volunteer and essential needs coordinator, at (732) 777-1940, ext. 122, or [email protected].
