Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook will offer a beginners bird walk Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. beginning at the visitor center. The two-hour walk will be led by a New Jersey Audubon naturalist, and attendees should bring binoculars.
“Nike Missile Defenses of Sandy Hook” will be presented Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Attendees should meet at the Nike Ajax missile (north of the ranger station), and will learn about Cold War defenses on a car caravan to the Hook’s Nike missile and radar sites. A salt marsh walk will be Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., beginning at Horseshoe Cove parking area. A holly forest ramble will be Nov. 20 at 2 p.m., beginning at the visitor center.
