SPOTSWOOD — The borough’s Zoning Board of Adjustment is seeking two new full-term members and one alternate.
Borough Clerk Patricia DeStefano said the board is seeking to replace Michael Sabanos, an alternate who moved out of town, and Robert Mairs, who is chairman of the borough Planning Board.
Board member Robert Kowalski, also a full-term member, is also leaving, she said.
Alternates serve two-year terms on the board while regular members serve full four-year terms, she said. An alternate member can vote if there is not enough regular members to do so.
The board usually has seven full members and two alternates, she said.
Appointments to the board are made by the Borough Council.
Council President James Shearn said the borough is actually fortunate to have the vacancies come up now. When the council interviewed the four candidates seeking to fill Judith Ruffo’s council seat, it asked each if they were interested in serving on an agency such as the Zoning Board. All four — Sandra Kerwin, Marge Drozd, Robert Thuring and Thomas Barlow — said they would be.
“They all said they had interest,” Shearn said.
Kerwin was chosen to fill Ruffo’s seat.
Shearn added that the council will try to fill the board vacancies as quickly as possible.
He also complimented the four candidates, saying they are all “high caliber” people and he appreciates their volunteerism.
At Monday night’s meeting, the council reappointed Andrew Mashanski to another four-year term on the board.
DeStefano said interested parties should send a résumé or letter of intent to her office.
