In this year’s election — in a race where national and county candidates did little in Aberdeen — Sheriff Joseph Oxley came within one vote of his opponent, and President George W. Bush was able to eliminate McGreevey’s margin of victory all by a mere 200 votes. Clearly, the efforts of the local Aberdeen Republicans are turning the tide.
Next year, there are three seats up on the Aberdeen Town Council, including the mayor. We’ve had an entrenched town council for many years, a council that has lost touch with the electorate. I believe seizing residents’ property through eminent domain, and deciding to grant a liquor license to a mega-discount liquor dealer — which may hurt many longtime local businesses — is not the direction residents want for this town. Get involved, and voice your opinion in your town.
