Virginia M. Romanelli Russell
Mrs. Russell, 47, of Middletown, died Nov. 11 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she resided there before moving to Middletown in 1973. Mrs. Russell was a receptionist and front desk appointment coordinator at the Naval Dental Center, Northeast Branch Dental Clinic, Earle Naval Weapons Base, Colts Neck and the Leonardo section of Middletown, where she was employed for more than 25 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, and was active with the Middletown girls softball team. Mrs. Russell was predeceased by her parents, Nick Romanelli and Felicia Cirigliano. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Rick Russell; two daughters, Kristen Russell and Alicia Russell, both of Middletown; a son, Ricky Russell Jr. of Middletown; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Justine Romanelli, and Phyllis and Robert Stainagle, all of the Belford section of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Mary Romanelli of Middletown; two nieces and two nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Church, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine E. O’Neill
Mrs. O’Neill, 47, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died Nov. 8 at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she resided in Hazlet prior to moving to Leonardo four years ago. She was activity director at Atlantic Highlands Nursing Home, Middletown, where she was employed six years. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Donna Cieslik, of Leonardo; a sister and brother-in-law, Maryellen and Douglas Hudson, of Keansburg; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Mercedes J. Kenny DeWindt
Mrs. DeWindt, 86, of Matawan, died Nov. 6 at Victoria Health Care, Matawan. Born in Maricaibo, Venezuela, she resided in Curacao, Netherland Antilles, and Holland prior to moving to the United States in 1976. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Lions Club of Curacao, and Matawan Woman’s Club. She was an active volunteer for a local “phone-a-friend” program for shut-ins. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry in 1983. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Cecilia and Manolo Mosteiro, of Oroso, Spain; Iris and Mark Wortreich, of El Prado, N.M.; and Noemie and Marienus Maas, of Ter Aar, Holland; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry A. and Robin DeWindt, of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; eight grandchildren ;and two great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass was held at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Interment was at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Ann Marie Schumacher Maher
Mrs. Maher, 73, of Hazlet, died Nov. 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Red Bank, she resided in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, and Keansburg prior to moving to Hazlet 45 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. She was predeceased by her husband, James Maher in 1971; a grandson, Alexander Osmato III; and a brother-in-law, Gregory Borg. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Susan Maher, of Howell, David and Judy Maher, of Barnegat, and Daniel and Kelly Maher, of Little Egg Harbor; three daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Reiner, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, Joyce Johnson, of Vermont, and Linda and Christian Sandklev, of Barnegat; a sister and brother-in-law, Elsie Lou and Alfred Boehler, of Marmora; a sister-in-law, Patricia Borg; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was at St. Ann’s Church. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Nicholas D’Orazio
Nicholas D’Orazio, 17, of Freehold Township, died Nov. 3 after a long, courageous battle with muscular dystrophy. He was a senior at Freehold Township High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was an avid fan of “The Simpsons,” who collected the show’s memorabilia. He loved nature and his dog, Snow, and also had a great sense of humor. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Felice D’Orazio. Surviving are his parents, Linda and Riccardo D’Orazio; his maternal grandparents, Anne and Tom Kennedy, of Manchester; his paternal grandmother, Carmela D’Orazio, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four aunts and five uncles, Susan and John Ryan, of Howell, Gregory D’Orazio, of Brooklyn, Cathy and Dante D’Orazio, of Holmdel, and Clare and Tom Kennedy, and Mary and Domenick Maragna, all of Long Island, N.Y.; and nine cousins. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Veronica’s Roman Catholic Church, Howell, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Gert Feldman
Mrs. Feldman, 95, of the Covered Bridge section of Manalapan, died Nov. 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in New York for 85 years before moving to New Jersey 10 years ago. Following her retirement, Mrs. Feldman served for many years as president of her Queens apartment building. After moving to Manalapan, she remained active and was instrumental in helping those in need in the Covered Bridge community. Mrs. Feldman was predeceased by her husband, Philip. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Jan Feldman, of Marlboro; a sister, Sylvia, of Chicago; three grandchildren; and her friend Karen. Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick, was in charge of arrangements.
Ronald T. Gasdia
Mr. Gasdia, 82, of Manalapan, died Nov. 11 at home. Born in Newark, he had lived in Irvington before moving to Manalapan 39 years ago. Mr. Gasdia was a shop steward for Local 560 in Union City for 15 years before retiring in 1978. Prior to that, he was a private ticket broker and was treasurer for the Brooklyn Academy of Music for 10 years. Mr. Gasdia was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine, and a son, Frederick, in 1994. Mr. Gasdia is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Berath Gasdia, of Highland Park, Bonny Gasdia, of Englishtown, and Bianca and Nick Vacca, of Manalapan; a brother, Frank Gasdia, of Downey, Calif.; a sister, Eileen Barker, of Turnersville; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. The Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, was in charge of arrangements.
