Thompson Park contest winners announced

The Monmouth County Park System has announced the winners of its annual “Colors of the Park” art contest held during Thompson Park Day held in the Lincroft section of Middletown in mid-October.

Five students from Meadowbrook Elementary School, Eatontown, took first through third place. The students were Abigale Kragh, first place for grades one and two; Jadelyn Eggleston, second place for grades one and two; Paolo Arceo, second place for grades three and four; Hanna Bennett, third place for kindergarten; and Petronela Stachelek, third place for grades one and two.

Cecilia Aquirre placed second for grades seven and eight, while Sofia Dadap placed fourth for grades one and two. Both are students at Red Bank Charter School,

Kyle Santopadre, a student at Cove Road School, Hazlet, placed fourth for grades three and four. Upper-grade students at St. Mary’s of the Assumption, Ocean, also took first through fourth place, with Stephen Rogers placing first for grades seven and eight, Kaillin Holmes placing second for grades five and six, Megan Goldstein earning third place for grades seven and eight, and Laura Cesco-Cancian placing fourth for grades seven and eight.

The Park System also announced the winners of its “Strut Your Mutt” dog costume contest held during Thompson Park Day, with Mya, a Shih Tzu owned by Lauren Pisarcik, Tinton Falls, named “scariest” in the 3 p.m. competition. Lucky, a Shetland sheep dog owned by Mary Finnerty, Aberdeen, was named “prettiest” during the noon competition, while Dahlia, a Pharaoh hound, and owner Maureen Montgomery of Matawan, were named “best canine/human combo.”

Annie, a golden retriever, and her owner Julia Blackburn of Lincroft won the same award at the 3 p.m. competition. Cody, a Boston terrier owned by Steve Kramer of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, was named “funniest” at the 3 p.m. competition, while Chip, a Shetland sheep dog, and owner Lori Lichter of Holmdel won for “most original.”
