Committee to discuss building of new cable cabinet.

The Police Station Subcommittee will meet with representatives from Verizon Communications to discuss a proposed easement for a distribution cabinet to be located on the grounds of the new Cranbury police station.
The Township Committee decided Monday to table Verizon’s easement request so the subcommittee could review the terms of the easement and discuss them with the telecommunications company’s representatives.
Verizon contends that it needs to build a 20-by-35-foot PSI fiber optic cable cabinet to meet increased telecommunications needs. It was suggested that the cabinet be built on police station property because technicians would be able to access it more easily.
Ms. Marcelli said the township would prefer Verizon to use a different site because a large distribution cabinet would restrict the amount of parking at the station and could make future building expansion more difficult.
She said Monday the township could ask Verizon for a "give-back," in return for placing the distribution cabinet on township land.
