The local pop band Bedbug Eddie will perform at the Princeton Public Library 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Named after a character played by Burt Young in the film "The Pope of Greenwich Village," Bedbug Eddie is a five-piece New Jersey-based rock and roll cover band. It was formed seven years ago when Pennington resident Jim Crawford placed an ad on the Web site musicians.com.
Its members include Mr. Crawford, a rhythm guitarist familiar to library customers for his work as a technology assistant, along with Chris Hogan on the bass guitar, Brian Hogan on the drums, Bill Riordan, a singer and guitarist and George Marinich on lead guitar.
Bedbug Eddie covers more than 30 years of music, ranging from Bob Seger and Neil Young to Matchbox 20 and the Foo Fighters. The band recently performed at The Sticky Wicket in Trenton and the Triumph Brewing Company in Princeton.
The band’s performance is part of the popular Unquiet Fridays series. One Friday a month, the library stays open late for cultural and personal enrichment events.
Mr. Crawford said the band was intrigued by the concept of Unquiet Fridays and was anxious to appear at the library.
"This is long overdue," he said. "I think the guys were surprised to hear that a rock band would actually be performing inside a library. It certainly isn’t your parents’ library anymore, that’s for sure."
Princeton Public Library is located at 65 Witherspoon St. Special assistance is available for library customers with disabilities. Those with special needs should contact the library 48 hours before any program to arrange for accommodations. Call (609) 924-9529.
